2. The benefits of swaddling your baby
Swaddling is a traditional practice of wrapping a baby up gently in a lightweight, breathable blanket (made of cotton or thin flannel fabric, and at least 101.6 by 101.6cm).
Swaddling works best during the first 6 to 8 weeks of life.
You should only body wrap (not tightly, but a comfortable fit) your baby, not their neck or head (Baby Center, n.d.).
Benefits:
(1) Helps your baby feel warm and secure (swaddling soothes the baby), similar to how he or she felt in your womb, and
(2) Prevents unnecessary wake-ups caused by a baby’s startle reflex. The baby’s arms and legs will be contained, because they are wrapped gently. As a result, the baby will be less likely to startle himself or herself awake with their flailing limbs (Baby Center, n.d.; Pregnancy, Birth and Baby, 2021).

5. Tummy time: Why and how to do it
Tummy time: A time in which you place your baby on his or her stomach only when the baby is awake and attended.
Have tummy time while your baby is awake following either a diaper change or nap. Do it for three (3) to five (5) minutes. Try doing it two (2) to three (3) times daily.
As your baby gets used to, place him or her on his or her stomach for longer timeframe or more often. During tummy time, you can arrange age-appropriate toys within his or her reach.
Again, both you and your baby must be awake during tummy time. Never leave your baby unsupervised during tummy time (Chertoff, 2021; Hoecker, 2021).
Benefits:
(1) Tummy time helps your baby develop strong neck and shoulder muscles,
(2) Tummy time promotes motor skills,
(3) Tummy time might prevent the back of your baby's head from developing flat spots (positional plagiocephaly), and
(4) Tummy time might help your baby build strength required for sitting up, rolling over, crawling, and walking (Hoecker, 2021).
